Every survey setting, where to find it, and what it does for your respondents.
Survey settings control how respondents move through your survey, who can take it, and when it stops accepting responses. Each setting is stored once, so a change made in one place shows up everywhere else.
Show progress bar. Shows a bar at the top of the survey that fills as respondents move through the sections. On by default.
Allow respondents to go back (Allow going back in the share dialog). Shows a Back button so people can return to an earlier section and change answers. On by default.
Randomize questions. Shuffles the order of questions within each section for every respondent. Headings, text and other content blocks stay where you put them. Sections keep their order.
Randomize answer options (on the Integrity tab). Shuffles the options in Choice, Checkboxes, Dropdown and Image choice questions. Options such as "Other", "None of the above" and "Prefer not to say" stay at the end.
Turn on Time limit and enter a number of seconds. Respondents see a countdown at the top of the survey, which turns red in the last 30 seconds. When time runs out, the survey submits whatever they have answered.
Require sign-in (Signed-in people only in the share dialog). Respondents sign in before they can submit. Only then can you turn on One response per person in the share dialog, which stops anyone from submitting twice.
Password Protection (Project settings, Privacy, marked Pro). People must enter the password you set before they can see the survey. Until you save a password, nobody can open it.
Device Lock (Project settings, Privacy). Choose Any device, Desktop only or Mobile only. Useful for exams that should be taken on a computer.
Max responses (Limit total responses in the share dialog). The survey closes once it has this many responses. Later visitors see a message that it has reached its response limit.
Close After Date (Project settings, Responses). The survey closes at the date and time you pick. Later visitors see that it has ended.
By default, respondents see a Response Submitted screen with "Thank you for completing this survey!". To show your own message instead, add an ending page.
Redirect URL (Project settings, Responses). Sends respondents to a web address of your choice a couple of seconds after they submit.
Email me about new responses (Project settings, Responses). Emails you when someone finishes the survey. Responses that arrive close together are grouped into one email.
The Integrity tab holds settings for exams and high-stakes surveys:
Collect behavioral data (on the Responses tab) records timing and interaction signals that Cipher uses to spot low-quality responses. It is on by default. See What is Cipher?.
The Scoring tab turns on grading against answer keys. See Quizzes and scoring.
