Send respondents to different sections based on their answers, end the survey early, or show a question only when it applies.
Logic lets your survey react to answers, so people only see what is relevant to
them. Surbee has two kinds:
Branching decides which section a respondent goes to next.
Conditional questions show or hide a single question based on an earlier
answer.
Branching between sections
Branching rules belong to a section. They are checked when a respondent clicks
to move on from that section.
Make sure your survey has the sections you want to send people to. See
The editor.
On the section that contains the question, open the section menu (the three
dots next to Section 2, Section 3 and so on) and choose Add
branching.
In the Page Logic window, click + Add branching rule.
Build the rule:
When: pick a question from this section.
Pick a condition: equals, does not equal, contains, is
answered, is not answered, is greater than or is less than.
Type the value to compare against, unless the condition is is answered
or is not answered.
Then: choose Go to page or Skip to page and pick a section, or
choose End survey.
Add more rules if you need them, then click Save Logic.
How rules are applied
Rules are checked from top to bottom, and the first one that matches wins.
If no rule matches, the respondent goes to the next section in order.
For choice questions, type the option as it appears, for example
Not satisfied. Matching ignores capitals and punctuation.
For number questions such as Rating, Slider or Net Promoter Score, use is
greater than or is less than. For example, "When How likely are you to
recommend us? is less than 7, then Go to page Follow-up".
On Checkboxes, equals and contains match when the respondent ticked
that option, whatever else they ticked.
Ending the survey early
Choose End survey as a rule's action to stop the survey for people who
should not continue, such as anyone who does not give consent or who falls
outside your target group.
When an End survey rule fires, the response is submitted with what the
respondent answered so far. If your survey has an ending page, they see it.
Otherwise they see Surbee's standard completion screen. See
Create an ending page.
In your results, responses that ended this way are marked Declined or
Screened out, so you can tell them apart from people who finished.
Showing a question only when it applies
A conditional question appears only when an earlier answer matches. For example,
show "What could we have done better?" only to people who rated you 3 or lower.
Set these up by asking Surbee's AI in the chat:
"Only show question 5 if the answer to question 4 is Yes."
"Show the follow-up about pricing only to people who chose Too expensive."
A conditional question can depend on an answer from the same section or an
earlier one. It appears as soon as the answer it depends on matches.
Test every path
Logic is the easiest part of a survey to get wrong. After you add rules, click
Preview and take each path: answer the deciding question one way, check
where you land, then restart and answer it the other way. Conditional
questions are best checked on the live survey. See
Preview and test your survey.
