How do I share my survey and start collecting responses?

Publish your survey, choose who can respond, then share a link, an email invitation, a QR code or an embed.

Everything about sending your survey lives in one place: the Send and collect responses dialog.

Open the dialog

In the editor, click the button at the top right. It says Collect responses until the survey is published, and Share survey after that.

Publish first

Your survey link only works once the survey is published. Until then the dialog shows a Not live badge, and the copy and send buttons are turned off.

To publish, click Publish and collect at the bottom of the dialog. When it finishes, the link is live and the button at the bottom changes to Done.

After publishing, keep editing as normal. Edits to a published survey go live when they are saved, so respondents who open the link afterwards see the new version. Check changes in Preview before you make them on a survey that is already collecting responses.

Choose who can respond

Under Who can respond, pick one:

  • Anyone with the link. Responses are anonymous and nobody needs to sign in.
  • Signed-in people only. Respondents sign in before they submit.

With Signed-in people only, you can also turn on One response per person. Someone who has already responded is told so if they try again.

Response settings

The left side of the dialog also has the settings you are most likely to want before you send:

  • Show progress bar
  • Allow going back
  • Randomize questions
  • Collect behavioral data, the timing and interaction signals Cipher uses to flag low-quality responses
  • Limit total responses, with a Maximum responses number

These are the same settings you'll find in the editor's settings panel. Survey settings explains each one.

The link sits at the top of the right side. Click Copy link and paste it wherever your respondents are: an email, a chat, a social post or a course page.

Invitation

The Invitation tab drafts an email for you:

  1. In To, enter email addresses separated by commas.
  2. Add an invitation message if you want one.
  3. Click Send. Your own email app opens with the recipients, a subject line and the survey link filled in, ready for you to send.

QR code

The QR code tab shows a code respondents can scan to open the survey. Put it on slides, posters or a printed handout. Click Download PNG for an image, or SVG for a file that stays sharp at any size.

Embed

The Embed tab gives you two snippets to paste into a website or a learning platform such as Moodle, Canvas or Blackboard. Click Copy next to either:

  • Embed on a web page or LMS shows the full survey inside your page.
  • Link button adds a "Take the survey" link that opens it in a new tab.

To give your survey a more readable address, open Project settings from the project menu and set a Custom URL Slug on the General tab.

Where responses go

Responses appear in your results as they come in. Click View responses in the editor's top bar to see them. Cipher, Surbee's response-quality check, looks at each one. See What is Cipher?.
