Embed a survey on your website or LMS

Run a survey inside your own page, Moodle, Canvas, or Blackboard, or add a link button.

You can run a survey inside any web page that accepts HTML, including learning management systems such as Moodle, Canvas, and Blackboard. Responses from an embedded survey land in your dashboard and go through Cipher like any other.

Get the embed code

  1. Open your survey in the editor and click Share survey (or Collect responses if it is not published yet).
  2. In Send and collect responses, open the Embed tab.
  3. Under Embed on a web page or LMS, click Copy.

The code looks like this, with your survey's link in place of the example:

<iframe src="https://your-survey-link" width="100%" height="720" frameborder="0" style="border:0;max-width:760px" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Paste it wherever your site or course lets you add HTML. You can change height if your survey needs more or less room.

Add it to an LMS

The steps differ slightly between systems and versions, but the idea is the same: find the HTML or source view of a page, paste the code, and save.

  • Moodle. Add a Page or Label to your course, switch the text editor to its HTML or source code view, paste the code, and save.
  • Canvas. Create or edit a Page, open the HTML editor, paste the code, and save.
  • Blackboard. Add an item or document to your course, open the HTML or source code view in the content editor, paste the code, and save.

If your LMS strips the code out when you save, your institution may restrict embedded content. Ask your LMS administrator, or use the link button below instead.

If you would rather send people to the survey in a new tab, copy the Link button snippet from the same Embed tab:

<a href="https://your-survey-link" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Take the survey</a>

You can change the words "Take the survey" to anything you like. Style the link with your site's own button classes if you want it to look like a button.

Other ways to share

The same dialog has an Invitation tab that opens your email app with a ready-made message, and a QR code tab with PNG and SVG downloads for slides, posters, and handouts. Your survey's Share tab also has its own Embed code that you can copy with Copy code.
