View and filter your responses

Find every response on the Insights page, read individual answers, and filter by status or date.

Every survey has an Insights page where its responses land. Open the survey, then choose Insights at the top of the page.

If nobody has answered yet, you'll see No responses yet. Share your published survey and responses will appear here as they come in. A Live badge next to the page title means new responses are arriving automatically, so you don't need to refresh.

The Insights tabs

The Insights page has five tabs:

  • Overview. Headline numbers, charts, and a written recap of how the survey is doing. See Read the Overview.
  • Results. A table of every individual response. This article covers it.
  • Themes. Written answers grouped into the ideas people raised. See Themes and Analysis.
  • Analysis. What moves your scores and where groups answer differently.
  • Funnel. How many people opened, submitted and answered each question. See Understand the Funnel.

When a response is saved

A response is saved when someone reaches the end of your survey and submits it. If a person closes the survey halfway through, their answers are not saved as a response. The Funnel tab can show where people left, but it does not keep their partial answers.

That's why every row in the Results table is a finished survey. What varies is how many questions each person actually answered, which is what the status column shows.

The Results table

Each row is one response. The columns are:

  • Response. A name such as "Response 12". Responses are numbered in the order they were submitted, so the number stays the same when you sort or filter the table. A warning icon here means Cipher flagged the response.
  • Answered. How many questions this person answered out of the questions in the survey, for example 8/10.
  • Status. How complete the response is. See the next section.
  • Cipher. The response's Cipher score. Hover over it to see Cipher's verdict: Trusted (80 or above), Review (60 to 79), or Flagged (below 60, or marked as unlikely to be genuine).
  • Submitted. The date and time the response was submitted.
  • Duration. How long the person took to finish.
  • Device. The type of device used. Hover over the icon to see its name.

You can sort by Status, Cipher, Submitted and Duration by clicking the column heading. Click it again to reverse the order. The table starts with the newest responses first and shows them a page at a time.

What each status means

Surbee works out a status for every response from how many questions were answered:

  • Complete. Every question in the survey was answered.
  • Some blank. At least a third of the questions were answered, but one or more were left blank.
  • Mostly blank. Fewer than a third of the questions were answered.
  • Declined or Screened out. The person gave an answer that ends the survey, through an end-survey rule you set on a question. If that question is about consent or agreeing to take part, the response is labelled Declined. Otherwise it's labelled Screened out.

Open a response

Click any row to expand it. You'll see:

  • Each question, numbered Q1, Q2 and so on, with the person's answer underneath. Questions they skipped show Left blank.
  • How many seconds they spent on each question, where that was recorded.
  • If Cipher flagged the response, the reasons appear first, along with a short explanation labelled Reasoning. Hover over it to see every signal that contributed.

At the bottom of an expanded response, under Is this response genuine?, you can mark it as Genuine or Fraud. Cipher learns from these choices.

Click the row again to collapse it.

Search responses

Use the Search responses box above the table to find responses containing a word or phrase. Search looks through every answer in every response, so you can find, for example, everyone who mentioned "pricing".

Filter by status

Next to the search box are status filters:

  • All
  • Complete
  • Some blank
  • Mostly blank
  • Declined, which only appears when at least one response ended through an end-survey rule. It includes responses labelled Screened out.

Each filter shows how many responses it holds, so you can see the count before you click. Search and the status filter work together.

Choose a date range

The date picker at the top of the Insights page sets which responses the page shows. It starts at Last 30 days. You can pick one of these presets:

  • Last 7 days
  • Last 30 days
  • Last 90 days
  • Last 12 months
  • All time

Or pick a start and end date on the calendar for a custom range.

The range applies to the Overview, Results and Funnel tabs, and it stays the same as you move between them. It also carries into your exports. The Themes and Analysis tabs always use all of your responses.

Very large surveys

The Insights page loads the most recent 2,000 responses in the chosen date range. If your survey has more than that, a note under the Overview says "Showing the most recent X of Y responses". Narrow the date range to see older responses.
